With Google Docs, you can create quizzes and surveys using "forms".  If you have everyone's email address, you can send them the link.  However, this is not always convenient.  To get around this, you can copy the link and embed it into your own website.  Students can access it from there.  One of the nice things about Google dosc is that there is a wide variety of question types you can choose.

The teacher must have an account, but the students do not.  This makes it easier for the students to get involved.  All they need to do is go to the link and begin typing their answers.  It is done at the student's pace and can be accessed by them at any time of day.  It is a great way to do a quick check to ensure that students are watching the videos for flipped classrooms or doing their reading at night.

Pros

+ students do not need to download an app or set up an account

+ wide variety of question types

+ can be accessed outside of the classroom

+ very user friendly

Cons

- since students don't have to have an account, you have to trust them to enter their name correctly

- only certain types of questions can be graded right away, but the spreadsheet is easy to read so you can check their answers
