Can You Hear Me Now?
Hangouts Continued
My cadremate, Cesar, and I used Hangouts to discuss the educational implicatons (see button above). Together we learned how to record the conversation using Hangouts on Air. We discussed ways that educators use Hangouts for bringing experts to the classroom, offering virtual office hours, meeting with parents etc. We also discussed the implications and considerations necessary for communication with students in these online tools. We need to maintain professionalism and protect the students' privacy and safety.
Video as
a Learning Tool
Video can be used in extraordinary ways for education. Teachers
can create videos, or find some already created, to make their subjectcome alive to the students. Teachers can also use video to build a flipped classroom where students watch the lesson and take notes at home. Students can find a quiet place to watch where there would be no distractions to them. They can pause and rewind as much as possible to help them move at their own pace. Then the classroom time can be used for practice questions, collaboration, higher-level problems and much much more.
I learned about a tool called Camtasia. I found it very easy to learn and I even learned how to post my tutorial videos to YouTube. I have since decided to do my last unit of the year as a flipped classroom. My students have expressed appreciation for the option to watch
the lessons ontheir own time and at their own pace.

How to Create:
AHA Moment
I realized how easy it was to use Camtasia 2 ... and I
haven't even experimented with the fancy tools available on it yet. I have begun with the basics and I really enjoy it. I taught the last chapter of my Geometry class as a flipped classroom using Camtasia. At first it took quite a while to create a 5-10 minute video. But once I learned how to edit and cut the movie, I realized that I didn't have to stop and start over everytime I said something that didn't sound right. I learned to just keep going knowing that I could edit out my mistake before posting the video. I will definitely be using this in my classroom
in my future.
Prayer
Connection
In Matthew 19:13-15, Jesus commanded the disciples not to keep the children away from Him. He used this as an example to remind them that God's kingdom is made up of people who have simple faith, like a child. I take this to mean that God's kingdom is made up of people who just want to be with God, not overcomplicating things but just loving Him.
