APA &
Citatations
It is important to incorporate the proper use of APA style
in one’s writing for simplicity (universality), giving credit where credit is due, and avoiding plagiarism. I focused on practicing 2 important pieces this week: in-text citations and references. When I need to use a citation within the text, I need to include the author, date and page number or paragraph number of the quote. However, when these are not readily available or the quote I am using is from an unusual source, it becomes a bit more difficult. I must provide a reference for any direct quote, paraphrase or idea found in a source outside of myself. Two websites I turn to when I need to know are Purdue OWL and APA Style.
Skype
Communication with others around the world or in
one’s own neighborhood through instant messaging or video
chat can be accomplished through Skype. I found “Skype in the Classroom” which connects teachers with teachers who are interested in classroom collaborations over shared interests.
Some may wish to invite authors or other experts into their classrooms via Skype rather than in person. Some may wish to offer their students virtual field trips through Skype in lieu of permission slips, busses, and a day off from school. Some may wish to provide virtual office hours where they can be available to students. The possibilities are “virtually” endless.
Skype in the Classroom
AHA
Moment
I was surprised to learn that there are other teachers out there (including on "Skype In The Classroom") that want to connect their classrooms with other classrooms. I have always thought this would interesting for collaboration, exploration and even games and competitions. But I had never explored it. Now that I know they are interested too,
I will be exploring it further.
Prayer
Connection
I appreciate the prayer of Jesus. It encourages me that He prayed for me (in John 17:20-26), even so long ago, that I would have unity with other believers and that I would know God's love for me even as God loves Jesus.
In this video, Bryan Duncan sings of Jesus' last words to his disciples before returning to heaven. These words continue to speak to me even today as I work my way through life. Jesus may not be with me physically, but He is still with me. And I long for the day when I will be with Him in Heaven.
