Working Together in a Virtual World

Google Docs

Google docs can be used to create a quiz, survey,

or HW assignment.  Google automatically compiles

the results in a spreadsheet for you.  The form can be sent

to students through their email, or you can give students the link.  You can allow them to edit or not.  Students can submit their answers and there are no more excuses or lost HW.

Google docs can be used in many ways.  A document can be created and students can add to it.  One fun thing that my cadre did was to collaboratively create a story, each person adding a little at a time.

Google Presentation

Google offers a free format for creating dynamic presentations as simply as PowerPoint.  It is saved straight to the google drive, so it can be accessed from any computer with internet.  You can use it to present information to your students.  Or you can assign your students to create a presentation to convey their knowledge in a creative way.

AHA Moment

I learned a creative way for collaboration.  Using

Google Docs, my classmates and I created a story, each adding our own piece.  I saw valuable uses for this in my classroom.  I can pull up the doc on my projector and students can watch as their answers appear.  Even though I teach math, I can still use it.  I can ask for words that mean multiplication.  Or I have students create a story inserting themselves into the action.  Then I can illustrate

substitution by having each one cross out

their name and replace it with a nickname.

I used to do that on transparencies, but

this would be superbly better.

Prayer Connection

In Joshua 1:6-11, God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous in the task that God has sent him to perform.  As Joshua keeps the scripture on his mind day and night, staying on the track that God as set before him, God's plan will be done.  The amazing thing is that God didn't ask Joshua to do it in his own strength or in his own wisdom.  In fact, much of Joshua's success came from obeying God's unusual commands which defied human wisdom.  Just like when David faced Goliath, he was successful when he did it God's way

as opposed to putting on heavy armor and

using modern weapons.
